Level 3 Completes Acquisition of Global Crossing

On 4 October 2011, Level 3 completed its acquisition of Global Crossing, previously majority owned by ST Telemedia. The combined company will operate under the name Level 3 Communications.
The transaction combines the strengths of both companies to create a premier global communications provider with reach to the U.S., Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, as well as the Asia Pacific region.  It will deliver an enhanced and expanded portfolio of advanced voice, video, data and managed solutions to enterprise, wholesale, content and government customers, anchored by extensive owned fibre networks on three continents in over 45 countries and substantial subsea cable capacity.
ST Telemedia is the single largest stockholder with about 25 percent stake in Level 3.



ST Telemedia CEO Calls on Vietnam President in Singapore
ST Telemedia’s President & CEO, Mr Lee Theng Kiat, called on the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam His Excellency Truong Tan Sang during his state visit to Singapore in September 2011.  At the meeting, Mr Lee, who was accompanied by several senior company executives, reiterated the company’s commitment to the development and growth of Vietnam and its telecommunications industry.

TeleChoice’s Proposed Acquistion of NxGen Communications Reinforces its Position in the ICT Industry
TeleChoice has entered into a purchase agreement to acquire NxGen Communications, a regional info-comm provider of managed services and system integration solutions.  NxGen has a diverse portfolio of clientele in financial services, hospitality and other large industry segments. The acquisition will further strengthen TeleChoice’s service offerings, customer base and market reach.
eircom Starts Construction of €100m Phase 1 Fibre Rollout 
eircom has started the construction of its fibre broadband pilot in South Dublin and Wexford town following its announcement in July  to invest €100 million on Phase 1 of a multi-year plan which aims to rollout superfast broadband services to one million premises over the next four years. Once Phase 1 is completed, fibre will pass more than 100,000 homes and businesses within the selected areas, providing speeds of 40 Mbps and beyond.

SOLO’s most unique feature is its solar charging battery that backs up its lithium battery to further extend the phone’s usefulness in outdoor locations where power points are not easily accessible.

ST Telemedia Supports Promotion of Olympism and Sports in Singapore
ST Telemedia presented a cheque donation of S$100,000 to the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) in support of SOF’s goals of promoting Olympism and sports in Singapore.  ST Telemedia’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Relations, Mrs Kuan Kwee Jee, presented the cheque to SOF’s board member, Mrs Jessie Phua, at a presentation ceremony held on 16 September 2011.   
ST Telemedia Supports  ‘A Very Special Walk 2011’
For the second consecutive year, ST Telemedia gave its support to the annual fund raising event of the Autism Resource Centre and Pathlight School, Singapore’s autism-focused school.  Funds raised from this year’s event, themed  ’There’s a Hero in Me’, will be used to support persons with autism with post-school options for employment and purposeful engagement in leisure and community activities.

eircom Launches Apprentice Programme 
eircom launched their Apprentice Programme  to offer candidates who have completed their leaving certificate  the opportunity to develop skills and kick start their career in the telecommunications industry. 50 apprentices will be selected and they will commence their stint with eircom in October 2011.
