U Mobile-Qualcomm Collaboration Pushes the Envelope of Smart Retail in Malaysia

U Mobile partnered with Qualcomm Technologies to explore the future of smart retailing in Malaysia by offering digital innovations which benefit both retailers and their customers. The smart solutions will enable retailers to personalise shopping experiences for customers, provide greater ease of locating products, and even interact with them through augmented reality and location-based services. Examples of solutions on the retailer’s end include digitising and simplifying inventory, and better management of security issues through artificial intelligence. The roll-out of these solutions is particularly timely given the company’s recent commercial 5G launch and the anticipated rebound in the retail sector following the lifting of pandemic restrictions, resulting in more digital transformation opportunities. The telco also indicated that Smart Retail is the first of more to come from the collaboration.

StarHub Employees and Customers Work Towards Commitment of Planting 100 Trees in 2022

In the months of September and October, StarHub employees and customers planted 100 trees in Dairy Farm Nature Park and Pulau Ubin. Most of the species planted were classified as locally Vulnerable, if not Endangered or even Critically Endangered. Their efforts were part of StarHub’s Earth Day Commitments to plant 100 trees in 2022. The trees will sequester an estimated 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide over their lifetime, which is equivalent to the carbon emissions from about 250 round trips between Singapore and London. Planted trees will also count towards the OneMillionTrees movement, a nationwide effort which seeks to plant a million trees between 2020 and 2030 and transform Singapore into a ‘City In Nature’.
